Installation
  1. What shall I do to deal with the security warn at the start up?

Please trust the digital signiture signed by CrossFTP and click the Run button. See the following picture.

    start run
  2. If I am behind a Proxy, how to download the execution files?

You need to configure Java Web Start's proxy setting. Please start Java Web Start or run javaws in command line. Change its proxy configuration by going Edit-> Preferences -> Network Setting

  3. Where was the program installed in the system?

The program is installed in Java's cache directory (normally located under your home directory) and maintained by the Java Web Start system. It guarantees enterprise level security and integrity by checking the program's digital signiture and MD5 hash code before the program starts.

  4. How to uninstall/remove the program?

Normally you can find the uninstall/remove program item in the control panel. If not, please open the Java Web Start (javaws), select the application item and remove the application.
Attention: For the CrossFTP Server , please make sure you have unchecked the "Start Automatically after System Login" before your installation. Otherwise, when you restart the system, the system will popup the warning that states "the machine can't find the program".

Running
  1. Why the program exited unexpectedly or popped up "JScript error"?

This is caused by a Java virtual machine's web proxy detecting bug. This happens when your default web browser uses "automatic configuration script" as the proxy setting, and the Java's Network Proxy setting is "uses browser setting". To solve this problem, change Java Web Start's Network Proxy setting to "Use proxy server" and fill in the proxy server information directly.

Display
  1. How to correctly show Chinese/Japanese/CJK files' name in the FTP remote pane?

Please choose your default server encoding by going to "Tools | Global Options | Connection | Server Encoding". For instance, Chinese country should choose GB18030 as their default server encoding. Individual FTP site's server encoding can be specified at "Sites | Site manager | Options | Server Encoding". For the F3 Viewer, you can specify its encoding at "Global Options | Operation | Viewer Encoding".

  2. How to change the program's Look and Feel (Skin)?

You can change the client program's L & F (Skin) by change the Look & Feel option at (Tools | Global Options | Display). It will take effect after program's restart.
If you want to install third party Java L&F for your system, for example, the JGoodies (com.jgoodies.looks.plastic.PlasticLookAndFeel, com.jgoodies.looks.plastic.Plastic3DLookAndFeel, com.jgoodies.looks.plastic.PlasticXPLookAndFeel, com.jgoodies.looks.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel), Mac OS X (ch.randelshofer.quaqua.tiger.Quaqua14TigerCrossPlatformLookAndFeel), etc., follow the following steps: (Warning: Expert only! backup swing.property file before you try)
    i. Copy the L&F jar to JAVA_INSTALL_DIR/jre/lib/ext/,
ii. use this tool to help you add a Look & Feel class in Java, or you can modify the Java Swing config file directly as follows:
    - Edit the file JAVA_INSTALL_DIR/jre/lib/swing.properties
    - Add or set the line "swing.installedlafs=motif,metal,...,L&FName"
    - Add the line "swing.installedlaf.L&FName.name=TheName"
    - Add the line " swing.installedlaf.L&FName.class = L&F ClassName"

  3. My Chinese/CJK font has problems, and all fonts are shown as small squares?

Your java has not been properly international. Please check i18n and chinese. Recommand you to use Sun Java 1.5, and the simple solving for the Java1.5 fonts are here.

  4. Some of my Chinese/CJK words are correctly shown, but some of them are in small squares?

You Java has been configured to support CJK, but the default displaying font does not contain all the CJK words. Please choose (Tools | Global Options | Display | Font) to set a proper font for the program's display
